What to ask when shopping for a fertility centre

1. What is the Delivery / Live Birth rate?
  • What is the live birth rate/delivery rate of the centre?
  • What is the chance of having a delivery per cycle started?
  • What is the chance of having a delivery per embryo transfer?
  • What is the chance of carrying home a baby per cycle started and per embryo transfer?

Ask these question for IVF, ICSI, Freeze-Thaw cycles separately.

2. How many Cycles?

How many cycles has the centre performed so far this year and last year? Centres that do well are likely to do more than 100 cycles per year. Moreover a pregnancy rate of 50% based on 10 cases (5 pregnant out of 10 tries) has a different significance from one based on 100 cases (50 pregnant out of 100 tries)

3. Range of Services

Does the centre provide comprehensive fertility services?

It is important that the centre is able to provide a comprehensive range of treatment options so that the most appropriate (best) method is selected for you at the appropriate stage

4. Laboratory and Embryologists

Does the fertility centre have its own in-house IVF laboratory staffed by a qualified embryologist(s)?
