Who needs egg donation? (Recipients)
- Women who are unable to produce eggs of their own.
- Women with genetic diseases who might pass on a disorder to their children.
- Women over the age of 40 who want to have children.
- Only for non-Muslims and where the patient’s religion allow
Who is the egg donor? (Donors)
- Young women below 35 years old.
- Must be free of genetic diseases and viruses (the screening will be done at our centre).
- Can be relatives and close friends, but not related to the recipient's husband.

What is Egg Donation?
Eggs collected from the donor are fertilised with a prepared sperm sample from the recipient's male partner. Up to three embryos (resulted from fertilisation) are transferred to the uterus of the recipient 2 - 5 days after fertilisation. The rest of the embryos are usually stored for later use.
Step by step procedure in Egg Donation
Donor
- Drug treatment to encourage several eggs to mature.
- Monitoring of treatment, to measure the growth of follicles, individualize drug doses, and prevent serious side effects.
- Egg collection (guided by transvaginal ultrasound).
- In-vitro fertilisation with sperm of recipient's male partner.
Recipient
- Previous investigations: no ovulation.
- Hormone replacement therapy several days before transfer to prepare uterus.
- Embryo transfer (usually 2 - 5 days after fertilization).
- Pregnancy test / monitoring.
